Transactional Analysis & CBT Therapy
Angela Jullings trained in many modalities of psychotherapy. Originally trained in psychodynamic theory, she went on to train in Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - two tools of psychotherapy which assist clients in understanding themselves and others, enabling them to get a greater perspective, expand their awareness of how they communicate to themselves and others and the stories they tell themselves which hampers (or supports) their lives.
Transactional Analysis Every interaction with others (and ourselves during self-talk, for example) is a "transaction" - a communication and response to that person, done so unconsciously. TA is a communication tool of how we connect and relate to the world and each other, as well as internally - that is, the relationship we have with ourselves, which Angela would suggest is the most important connection and relationship of all. We all have individual maps of the world - how we see or hear the world, what we expect of the world and others. Our maps are created from our history and what we're shown, told and witness as children. We as humans have unconscious drivers and the process of TA in therapy helps you understand your drivers, your map, your "script" for your life and communications as well as interactions. During a therapy session with Angela working with TA, you cover the concepts of "games" of our interactions, our ego states, life scripts as well as what's driving us. |
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is a psychotherapeutic tool used by Angela in therapy to assist clients in identifying self-limiting cognitions, thought patterns, beliefs, attitudes and patterns that have an impact on our emotional state and therefore our behaviours. Within the process of CBT we learn how to identify our patterns in thought that are causing us an emotional, irrational and painful response to life or others and we begin to challenge those automatic cognitions, evaluate their worth and reality and foster more productive, rational lines of thought and belief. CBT is a process of making the unconscious conscious, as is Transactional Analysis, whereby we can then make healthier decisions and choices on how to think and interact with others and ourselves.
