Relationship Issues, Affairs, Separation & Divorce
Perhaps you're encountering difficulties in your relationship such as communication issues, trust and fidelity issues, or perhaps you don't feel the attraction to your partner in the way you used to. Work, children, stress can play a part in feeling disconnected from each other or perhaps you don't feel understood or validated and appreciated in the way you wish to. Relationship therapy can help you understand yourself, your partner and your needs. It can help you restore empathy for each other, your desire for each other and work through trust issues, developing a deeper love and respect. It may be that you've discovered an affair or that you yourself are in the midst of one. Betrayal and infidelities are traumatic and can leave us feeling devastated, confused, sad, angry, rejected, shamed and lost. You may even think the relationship or marriage is over- irrevocable. The partner or marriage we had has now gone and what lies ahead may seem daunting. You may believe you can never trust anyone again - let alone trust your partner again. |
There are varying types of affairs and Angela will assist you in understanding the affair and what happened, as well as help you find what it is you both want from a possible future together. Relationships can and do recover from the trauma of an affair and it is possible to work through such betrayals, deepening understanding of yourselves as a couple and finding respect and love once more. Whether your relationship recovers from an affair or whether you decide you can no longer be together, relationship counselling can assist you in healing and recovery.
Our intimate relationships are thought to be modelled on our relationship and bonding with our parents as young children. We unconsciously repeat the style of attachment learnt in childhood. We may become anxious in our attachment style, avoidant, or, ideally, secure in our attachment style. These styles of attachment help us or hinder us in developing and maintaining healthy, secure relationships, weathering ups and downs.
Couples may have a feeling of having "grown apart" and perhaps our values aren't aligned in the relationship. Life changes us and our values change over a period of time. Some couples experience a struggle with being understood, communication, sharing and emotional connection. This mismatch may frustrate and push us further apart.
Angela has been working with couples for over 2 decades. She trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a way of working with couples based on the premise that issues arise in an intimate relationship when individuals are experiencing a loss of connection and secure attachment to their partner.
Working with a variety of couples of all ages, same sex and heterosexual, married or living together, Angela can help you build bridges, re-connect and re-bond. She also works with those who wish to separate or divorce and assists in finding a pathway through the ending of that relationship, which can involve childcare issues. Those who are about to commit to marriage often attend sessions as pre-marital therapy, which helps in ironing out any potential issue and creates a template for working through those issues, should they arise.
Whether your relationship is under stress, off-track or you're embarking on a committed relationship, you may benefit from working with Angela who is based in East Sussex and also works online.
You can call Angela on 07736 480 376 or perhaps visit her relationship counselling website for further details.
