Mindfulness
We all live very busy lives with barely any time at all for ourselves, our bodies nor true relaxation. We live in our heads and evacuate our bodies for most part of the day! Some clients feel "numb" throughout their day, others cannot access the emotional self nor their bodies, they've spent so long in their heads and in their future or past, ruminating and asking themselves "what if", which can cause anxious thoughts and feelings.
What is Mindfulness? You've probably heard of Mindfulness and wondering what the benefits or purposes are in therapy. Mindfulness is a gentle method of becoming more conscious, more aware of yourself and your surroundings. It is the process of paying attention to the moment you are in with non-judgment and compassionate awareness. Angela will guide you in the process of Mindfulness in noticing "what is". Mindfulness connects us with the present moment, present sensations and emotions, present environment and present cognitions in the now. |
Mindfulness can promote mental health and well-being. As Mindfulness is a tool to regulate the nervous system, it can help reduce anxiety and stress and has been shown to help with issues such as depression, ADHD, addiction, grieving and menopausal issues to name a few conditions.
Used in psychotherapy, Mindfulness can also give us access to more information about oneself which we hadn't been conscious of, such as physical, somatic symptoms and reactions to issues in our lives. That awareness can be helpful in understanding ourselves, our reactions to situations and enable us to make different choices.
Outside the therapy room, once you learn the process or technique of Mindfulness, you can practice that state anywhere, walking, standing, sitting, at any time.
